Men’s Toupees

Our largest line

A toupee is worn every day, at conversation distance, by a man who does not want it noticed. That is the hardest thing in this trade to make well. It is also the reason every artisan in this workshop is trained in single-knot ventilation rather than wefting.

No two pieces are the same

Every toupee that leaves here is made for one head. We do not hold finished stock and pull a piece off a shelf, because a hair system that fits nobody in particular looks like a hair system.

The base is cut to your client’s template. The hairline is graduated to his age and his recession. The density is set for how he will be seen — office lighting is not stage lighting. Two men ordering the same base, the same colour and the same length will still receive two different pieces.

This is slower and it costs more. It is also why our customers reorder rather than shop around.

Choose the base

The base is the single decision that determines how the piece looks, how long it lasts and how your client will feel about it in month four. We would rather talk you into the right one than sell you the expensive one.

Full lace

Hand-tied throughout on French or Swiss lace. The most breathable, the most natural at the parting, and the one that survives daily wear longest.

Six to nine months. Best for a client who wears it every day and looks after it.

Skin — polyurethane

A thin poly base with hair injected at the front. The flattest possible hairline and the quickest tape change. Also the shortest-lived thing we make.

Three to five months. Best for a client who prioritises the front above all else.

Hybrid

Lace through the top and crown for breathability, poly at the perimeter for a secure, invisible edge. The compromise most of our repeat customers settle on.

Five to seven months. Best for a first-time wearer who does not yet know his preference.

Mono base is also available where a client is rough with his hair or works outdoors. It is the most durable base we make and the least invisible up close — a fair trade for the right person.

The hairline is the whole job

On a real head, hair at the front is finer, sparser and grows forward at a shallow angle. On a badly made toupee it is the same thickness as the crown and stands upright in a straight line. That single detail is what people notice without knowing what they are noticing.

We tie the front two centimetres single-strand, at a forward angle, with the density stepped down toward the edge. On a bleached-knot order we bleach only the perimeter, because bleach weakens the knot and an over-bleached front sheds within weeks.

Hair

Vietnamese human hair, cut in a single length from one donor, cuticle running the same direction along the whole strand. Straight and slight-wave as standard; anything else is set, not permanent, and will relax after a few washes.

Sending us a template

A template takes ten minutes and removes almost every reason a hair system gets returned. Cling film over the client’s scalp, three or four layers of clear tape over it, mark the hairline and the perimeter with a marker, cut it out, post it to us.

If you would rather not, our standard bases are 8″×6″ and 9″×7″, and we will send you the pattern so you can check it against your client before you order.

Questions we get asked

How long does a men’s toupee last?

A skin base lasts three to five months in daily wear. A full lace base lasts six to nine months. A hybrid sits between the two. Anyone quoting a year on a skin base is selling you something.

Do you cut to a template?

Yes, and we prefer it. Send us a template taken from your client’s head and we cut the base to it. Standard sizes are available if you are stocking rather than fitting.

Can you match an existing hair system?

Send us the old piece. We will match the base, the density, the hairline shape and the colour, and tell you honestly what we can and cannot reproduce.

What is the minimum order?

Five pieces for standard specifications, three for a first sample order. Custom bases start at five.

How long does production take?

Fifteen to twenty days for hand-tied toupees, twenty to thirty for a fully custom base. Add three to seven days for express shipping.

Current models

Every piece below can be made to your own template, density and colour. These are starting points, not a fixed catalogue.

Send us a photograph of the client, or the old piece, and we will come back with a specification and a price.
