Blonde on Vietnamese hair: what lifting can and cannot do

We take blonde orders and make them every month. We also tell every buyer the same thing first: Vietnamese hair is naturally very dark, every blonde piece has to be lifted, and lifting is the one part of this work that no written specification settles.

Why dark hair fights back

Lightening hair removes pigment in stages, and the pigment does not leave evenly. Dark Asian hair carries a heavy warm underlying tone, so as it lifts it passes through red, then orange, then a stubborn yellow. Reaching a clean pale shade means going through all of it.

Every stage costs condition. Hair lifted to a light blonde has been chemically opened more than hair left dark — that is not a supplier failing, it is what lifting is. It is also why a blonde piece should be judged after a wash and a week of wear, not on the day it arrives.

Ash is the hardest of all

Ash means the warmth is gone. Not covered, gone. On hair that started very dark, that means lifting far enough to remove the orange completely, then toning what remains. Ask for ash at a long length and you are asking for the most processed hair we can produce.

This is the single most common place where a first blonde order disappoints. The buyer approves a shade number, the piece arrives, and it reads warmer than the swatch. Nobody lied. The hair simply did not give up its warmth at the same rate as the sample did.

Two workshops, same shade number, different hair

Colour codes describe a target, not a process. Two workshops quoting the identical number can deliver visibly different hair, because the starting material differs, the lift differs, and the toner differs.

This is why we will not settle a blonde order by code alone. Send a photograph of the shade you are matching, or better, a physical swatch. We will match to the thing, not to the number.

The only honest way to buy blonde

Make the blonde piece your sample. Not a dark piece to judge the workmanship and a blonde one later — the blonde one first, because colour is the variable that written specification cannot pin down.

Hold it in daylight. Wash it. Look at it again after a week. If it is not right, you will know precisely what to tell us to change, and you will have spent one sample finding out instead of a production run.

What helps, practically

  • Send a photograph in daylight, not under salon lighting, which flatters warmth.
  • Say what you are matching to — a client’s own hair, a competitor’s piece, a swatch ring.
  • Tell us if the root should stay darker. A root shadow hides regrowth and is far more forgiving than a solid blonde.
  • Expect lighter to cost more and take longer. Lifting is a separate process with its own drying and toning time.
  • Judge after a wash, always.

What we supply, and what we do not

We supply Vietnamese hair only. We do not broker European hair, which lifts more easily and is what some buyers are really imagining when they ask for pale blonde. We would rather say that here than have you discover it when a shipment arrives.

Within Vietnamese hair, we will make what you specify, including the difficult shades. We will simply be straight with you about which ones are difficult, and we would rather lose an order at the enquiry stage than deliver a blonde piece that disappoints a client sitting in a chair.
